Arresting development: the works of photographer Ansel Adams

PHOTOGRAPHIC images, conceived in light, are born of water: it is in the developing bath that the picture starts to appear, beginning with the areas of deepest shadow and gradually filling in the more delicate lines and shapes; disconnected passages join, mysterious forms become legible and scattered parts become a whole. It is in another solution that the process is stopped, and in a final bath again that the sheet is washed before being taken out to dry.
