175 Years of photography – A Jubilee

When 175 years ago, Niépce, Daguerre and Fox-Talbot developed the first photographic processes, nobody yet had any idea how important this medium would eventually become. Even if in its early stages, very few people were familiar with photography, it has due to digitalisation finally reached the world community as a whole. Today, 175 years after the invention of photography, in large areas of the world almost everybody owns at least one camera – and associated with that are the huge number of pictures that surround us, irrespective of whether they are in private or public space, such as for instance Flickr with well over 8 billion photos.
