Exhibition: The Last Summer by David Tatnall at fortyfivedownstairs gallery, Melbourne

Royal Park

‘Your photographs do Royal Park proud. It is a very fine exhibition and beautifully presents the calm of this city haven which is about to be shattered by a storm of tunnel, cement and re-directed traffic’.

Dr Bob Brown, founder The Australia Greens.

The photographs in Royal Park – The Last Summer were made throughout Melbourne’s hot and dry summer of 2013-2014 with the hope of conveying the spirit and tranquillity of Royal Park.

Throughout David’s life as a photographer he has been engaged in conservation campaigns and has always comes back to this: the overwhelming sense of inspiration he gets from nature. Royal Park is the one of the few places in the city that honours the natural world.

In the 1980s American photographer and environmentalist Ansel Adams said, “It is horrifying that we have to fight our own governments to save the environment”.

It’s a great pity this is still true today.
